Budding talent and Nashville native, Hank Compton, has spent 2020 drip feeding tracks from his debut EP ‘Loser’ on Elektra Records. The good news is that the four-song player is now complete with the release of the title track.
‘Loser’ – like his prior releases ‘Judge Me’, ‘Call It What It Is’ and ‘Can’t Be Loved’ – is a calming blend of Compton’s influences of classic rock and 80’s pop yet with a modern sound and nostalgic feel. While his lyrics may be deep, the music is contagious and his only hope for sharing his stories is that others will find a piece of themselves within his records.
Hank explained, “These songs were written in a period of time where I was experiencing both monumental changes and stagnant comfortabilities. The way these songs were written/produced, split between ethereal soundscapes and neon textures, which speaks to the part of me fantasizing escaping, while the organic real elements was me facing the change I couldn’t control. Overall, it’s me trying to find peace in myself, not my surroundings”.
Loser winds through many topics – love, drinking, loneliness and finding identity. The guitar solo in particular makes it an emotive listen, and a poignant way to bookend the EP.
