merry choppins (aka Tony Esterly) has been helping other artists create music for years. His production and songwriting credits include work with BTS, SIA, Andra Day, Yo Gotti, among numerous others.
For his latest double single release, he welcomes vocalist Jessy Wilson on ‘flex’ and goes on a solo outing for ‘ohhhiiiiii’. These two very different offerings showcase merry choppins’ experimental taste and artistic expression that fuses together electronic, pop, hip-hop, R&B and funk – and we really like it.
Flex is one of my favorite songs I’ve been a part of! Jessy and I basically goofed around the whole session saying “what if we tried this” and it all just kind of worked right away. One of the consistent themes of mine as merry choppins is reworking and releasing songs that I’ve made with other artists that feel so good but might not fit the artist’s normal vibe. I love that this song gives Jessy a spot to shine in a different light than you would usually hear from her.

For Grammy-nominated songwriter, Wilson she’s had a colourful career so far, touring the world as a backup singer and writing collaborations with everyone from Usher and Kanye West to Faith Hill and Macy Gray. Her most recent album ‘Phase’ – co-written and produced by Patrick Kearny of The Black Keys – shows her vast appeal as it works as well on the dance floor as it would the rock club or dive bar.
Both artists are ones to keep an eye on in 2021 and beyond. Listen to merry choppins new double single release below.
