‘New Roads’ is the latest offering from multi-genre, emerging talent SANJAY, giving listeners another teaser from his forthcoming debut album.
‘New Roads’ is a sonic fusion of SANJAY’s take on indie dance, highlighting the talents of the afro ingenious Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, Lavva.
With SANJAY flexing his skills as a producer, vocalist and playing the traditional Peruvian guitar, the charango; ‘New Roads’ is a captivating, genre-fluid arrangement of introspective tones, resonant lyrics and gripping energy from start to finish.
Residing in the Joshua Tree desert in California, SANJAY is a new name, however, the innovative artist has been winning fans since the release of his debut ‘Initiation’ EP in 2021. That fan pool features ViVA label head Steve Lawler, renowned Hungarian artist Myon, Davi of Crosstown Rebels and the Grammy-nominated Zoo Brazil, who’ve all remixed tracks from the forthcoming LP.
“I wrote the lyrics talking to a younger version of myself, thinking about how everyone is on a journey to pave the way for future ancestors, with the chorus being a prayer – “a road paved with gold”. The song came together immediately; I started with the chord riff, played it on keys, sampled and looped it, and had a demo within 20 minutes. I had noticed Lavva online and knew instantly she had to be on the track. We share the same vision about the movement of power and spirituality and on hearing the demo, she immediately understood what the song was about.”
SANJAY’s guiding principle is ‘Music is Medicine’, a theme evident in his spiritual, sun-kissed sounds that have seen him headline on the Playa at the legendary Burning Man and tour the world with members of the Gypsy Kings.
A dexterous DJ, engineer, guitarist and singer, SANJAY is adept at various styles that mix live and electronic elements, with him at the helm across all instrument and production duties.
SANJAY’s debut album ‘Ancestral Visions’ will arrive later this year.
