GF- You made the video for Baggi’s ‘Time Painter’. If you could take Dorian Orange anywhere in time, where and when would you go?
DO- Paris in the 1920’s… the “crazy years”. Some of my favorite artists are from that period (Soutine and Modigliani) and generally speaking it seems like it was a time of hope and bubbling creativity.
GF- What are the main differences in making a music video now, compared to 20 years ago?
DO- The tools available now are a quantum leap ahead of what they were 20 years ago and as a result, so are the creative opportunities. You don’t ever want to say, “if you can imagine it, you can do it”, but certainly that creative freedom is more attainable than it’s ever been.
GF- Which is best – digital art or traditional paints?
DO- Digital art is incredible with its power and flexibility, but traditional paint also has a quality that is still untouchable. I’m still a sucker for analog.. both visually and aurally.
GF- How would you describe Dorian Orange in 5 words?
DO- Creatively kinetic and forward thinking.
GF- Where will we see the next creative output from Dorian Orange?
DO- We have a few large projects that we’re just finishing up and also starting that are all installation based (which we love because it combines technology with art). There’s a large projection mapping project in Orlando for Planet Hollywood where we’ve created environments, characters and movie inspired vignettes that play as a continuous two hour show and we’re also working on a very elaborate museum project in Washington DC that will be opening in October.
