A Quiet Place Part II proudly proclaimed that nature is healing — at least when it comes to box-office tallies. Over Memorial Day weekend, the sequel to director John Krasinski’s surprise 2018 sci-fi thriller hit thundered to an estimated $57 million in 3,726 theaters, the widest opening and biggest new-release bow since the onset of the COVID-19 era.
Like most sequels, the reviews have been mixed, but that’s unsurprising considering the originality and suspense of its predecessor. Part II follows the deadly events and terror of the outside world that the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.
It’s screening in cinemas now and we for one can’t wait to catch it.
