Continuing in our latest series, The Numbers Interview, we were excited to have the super talented, multi-instrumentalist SANJAY in the hot seat to discuss his debut EP and other hot topics in numerical form.
The word ‘unique’ is often bandied about speaking of new artists, when you listen to the sounds created by this producer, engineer, guitarist, singer and DJ, it certainly rings true.
With transcendent vocals and wielding a powerful blend of live electronica, tribal rhythms and bohemian soul, SANJAY’s ‘Initiation’ EP is a snapshot of his own initiation in life, from dealing with life’s challenges to celebrating the outcome.
Featuring new single ‘Passage’ and the formerly released ‘Dive’ (the video of which featured Hollywood actress Oona Chaplin) and ‘Electric Medicine’ (a favourite on Deezer South America’s ‘Las Favoritas del Editor’ playlist with over 6.5 million followers), SANJAY’s debut EP will be a hit with eclectic music fans everywhere.

Thanks for having me. I’d describe my sound as: Eclectic. Powerful. Live. Fun. Joyful. Colorful.
1 Reason Why People Should Listen to the ‘Initiation’ EP
It tells the story of my own Initiation in my life. Walking yourself through a challenging time, and coming out the other end. It’s something all of us can relate to: transformation.
1 favourite track from your new EP and why?
Electric Medicine. It’s a true expression of my ethos that Music is Medicine. It’s a belief that has carried me through all the ups and downs, and has given me an outlet to express it. The song is pure joy and reverence for the power of music.
Where will SANJAY be 5 years from now?
Traveling the world, playing music with my band. Collaborating and doing my best to push the boundaries, and create art that I can share with the world.
Who is the most influential artist to you personally of the last 100 years?
Prince. He could do it all. He made timeless music and his output was prolific. True embodiment of an artist.

It’s sacred, and while it’s something that can bring healing to the world it should always be respected. When done this way in the right setting, it can transform lives.
1 most memorable DJ set you’ve played and why?
Renegade set at a festival in Joshua Tree. It started with 3 people and ended with 350. True testament that if you play music from your heart, it will be seen and felt.
1 thing nobody knows about SANJAY…
My best instrument is the shaker.
