Situated on the south coast of England, Bournemouth’s Arts by the Sea Festival has unveiled the live event programme for its newly reformatted, COVID-friendly event As well as largescale fire and light installations and immersive sound experiences, there’s a thought provoking film screening that caught our attention.
Set in a hinterland between the civilised world and the wilderness, TOM is a dance for camera installation by the award-winning choreograoher, Wilkie Branson, which tells the story of one man’s journey to rediscover who he really is.
In this soul-searching, poetic film, Branson explores storytelling using the hip hop language of b-boying, bringing it together with cutting-edge technologies including animation, projection mapping, sound design and film installation.
The dark and affecting narrative of the film will appeal to festival goers who are keen to explore themes of self-discovery, isolation, mental health and the perseverance of the human spirit as it takes an innovative look at age-old questions.
Catch this stunning hour-long film in a socially distanced set up at the Pavilion Dance South West Theatre on 25 & 26 Sep. Booking is essential. Tickets are available from £5 concession / £10 standard from pdsw.org.uk.
