It promises to be ‘an epic adventure like no other’ and we believe it. Tom Hanks is Finch, a man who embarks on a moving and powerful journey to find a new home for his unlikely family—his beloved dog and a newly created robot—in a dangerous and ravaged world. If anyone can hold the viewer’s attention as the only human being on screen, a la Castaway, Hanks is your man.
The post-apocalyptic future of Finch is Amblin-produced from Game Of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik. With hints of Wall-E, The Martian and Chappis, it’s largely a wholesome feeling movie but with hints of danger (from both the scorching sun and other human survivors) on the fringes.
It’s the debut feature screenplay from writers Craig Luck (a veteran of film sets including Doctor Strange, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Jupiter Ascending) and Ivor Powell (a producer on Alien and Blade Runner back in the day), while Sapochnik was behind such blockbuster Thrones episodes as ‘Hardhome’, ‘The Battle Of The Bastards’, and ‘The Long Night’.
If you’re not an Apple TV+ subscriber, you’ll be disappointed to learn it’s only available via the platform from 5th November. But like all good film content these days, it’ll be a matter of time before it’s available elsewhere.
For now, enjoy the trailer below.
