Personally, we feel it’s too early to talk about Christmas, but with the amount of in-your-face TV and radio advertising ramming the most wonderful time of year down our throats, we’ve now taken the stance – if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.

As so it begins. The trailer for Silent Night caught our eye for all the right reasons. A dystopian, dark comedy isn’t the usual recipe for a Christmas film, but that’s what makes this worth a look.

Nell (Keira Knightley) and Simon (Matthew Goode) have invited their closest friends to join their family for Christmas dinner at their idyllic home in the English countryside. As the group comes together, it feels like old times – but behind all of the laughter and merriment, something is not quite right. The world outside is facing impending doom, and no amount of gifts, games or Prosecco can make mankind’s imminent destruction go away. Surviving the holidays just got a lot more complicated.

Alongside the two stars, this is a cast full of great performers, including Roman Griffin Davis, Annabelle Wallis, Lily-Rose Depp, Ṣọpé Dìrísù, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Lucy Punch.

Written and directed by Camille Griffin and produced by Matthew Vaughn, Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray, Silent Night will be in UK cinemas from 3 December, and then available on Altitude Film’s site from 6 December. In the States, it hits cinemas the same day, along with a streaming release on AMC+.
