The trailer for the upcoming Netflix film Monster has been released. It tells the story of Steve Harmon (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) a seventeen-year-old honor student whose world comes crashing down around him when he is charged with felony murder.

The film follows his dramatic journey from a smart, likeable film student from Harlem attending an elite high school through a complex legal battle that could leave him spending the rest of his life in prison.

The trailer also includes appearances from Nas (who also serves as the film’s executive producer), A$AP Rocky (portraying a character named William King),  Jennifer Hudson and Jeffrey Wright, John David Washington, and others.

Monster originally premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival; Netflix nabbed the rights for the film late last year. Based on the book of the same name by the late Walter Dean Myers, it was nominated for the 1999 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, and was named a Coretta Scott King Award Honor in 2000.

Monster is scheduled for release on Netflix on May 7, 2021. Watch the trailer below.
