Very few people could step into this role and do it complete justice, but having seen the trailer, Jennifer Hudson couldn’t be better suited to portray Aretha Franklin in this film biopic.

Out in the USA on Christmas Day and in UK in January 2021, the film follows Franklin’s life from singing in her father’s church, to becoming one of the most legendary musicians of all time.  Directed by Liesl Tommy, it showcases her rise to fame with the help of supporting stars, Forest Whitaker, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Marc Marlon Wayans, and Tate Donovan.

With a back catalogue of tunes etched in musical history, this one should be a winner on both soundtrack and storyline fronts.
