Alternative hip hop artist, merry choppins is back with a double single release via his own Pray For My Haters imprint. Featuring on track 1, “ib2up”, is Nashville rapper, Tim Gent, and going solo on single 2, “to one beat funk”, is the talented choppin himself.

Aka Tony Esterly, merry choppins has been helping other artists create music for years. His production and songwriting credits include work with BTS, SIA, Andra Day, Yo Gotti, KIRBY and Ashe among numerous others.

Things took a shift for Esterly during the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic. After spending time apart from others, he decided it was the perfect time to take a step back and create music for himself again. Thus merry choppins was born.

Commenting on the latest double release, choppins said,

“ib2up started as a hook idea from Tim. I just kept coming back to it after the initial session and tried producing different versions behind it. It went from a hype anthem, to a chill trap beat, and many versions in between. I finally landed on this production on the 6th version of the song when I threw Tim’s acapella over a rap beat I was making, and it finally felt like the song had a home.”

Under the alias of choppins, his music is an experimental artistic expression that fuses together electronic, pop, hip-hop/R&B and funk. From instrumental pieces with himself providing the vocal hooks, he’s also welcomed collaborations with R&B powerhouse Jessy Wilson, and alternative act, Island Police among others.

This is the first new music to drop from choppins’ since his debut double single “cloudin / nananana” in Aug 2021. And we hear he’s got plenty more original music and remixes up his sleeve for the coming year. Bring it on choppins!
